Welcome!

I'm a PhD candidate in the Department of Linguistics (advisors: Samuel Epstein and Marlyse Baptista) at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. My primary research area is in syntax within the Minimalist framework (MP) which is part of the larger interdisciplinary enterprise of biolinguistics pioneered by Noam Chomsky. I have been recently revising my Qualifying Research Paper (QRP), External Merge by Phase, for publication. Also, I have been working on a (never-ending) squib on Unification of Theta Relations with Sam.

Beside syntax, I'm interested in the pitch-accent (or tone) patterns of the Busan dialect of Korean. For more information on my research interests, click on "CV" or "Research" in top menu.

Outside linguistics, I enjoy reading about the philosophy of mind, theoretical physics, biology and brain sciences in general.
Outside of academia, I enjoy watching movies, listening to music, and sporadic blogging.

With my lovely wife, Im-Ryang Cheong [imɲaŋ ʤəŋ], I'm currently living in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA.
